Dallas Holladay, DO -

Don't forget spin classes. We've had a number of cases in my shop of spin class induced rhabdo and multiple cases have been published in the nephrology literature.

Joel Butler, Sr., M.D. -

I recently saw a 20-year-old who was three days out from his knee surgery. He presented with massive swelling of his ipsilateral thigh with severe diffuse pain and unable to bear weight. He had no swelling whatsoever distal to his knee. His distal pulses were full and intact. Inquired about his urine he confirmed that it had turned dark. His ultrasound was negative for vascular complications. His CPK was 16,000. Talking to him about his surgery he confirmed that he was informed that a pneumatic tourniquet was going to be used around his thigh. A non-exertional iatrogenic rhabdomyolysis!
