This animation compares normal facial muscle control with a stroke and Bell palsy patterns of paralysis. In a stroke the forehead is not paralyzed due to bilateral innervation. In Bell palsy the lesion is peripheral, affecting fibers from both hemispheres, causing complete hemifacial paralysis.
