Are peri rectal and peri anal interchangeable terms? I ask because I have opened abscesses that are probably two inches or so away from the rectum but the ones closer I consider peri rectal and consult surgery rather than just having them follow up with a surgeon. These are well appearing patients with normal vitals. I ask because I would like to know if, in general, all of these patients should be having CT’s and surgery consults despite their appearance and vitals. I know this is an opinion but would also like to know if this is the standard of care in most instances.
