You would apply local anaesthetic drops before unless it was penetrating but what about after if you removed with a needle for the rust ring .? How do you know you got it all out ?
Contact lens wearers aside is there actually evidence for topical antibiotics? Not sure I have ever seen an infection after a minor FB removal. It is another cost to the patient, albeit minor, but they have to go and get it and often they heal over 24hours so if they wait a day to get to a drug store do they lose any benefit? I often give them erythromycin ointment from our departmental stock- I'm in Canada so there is no cost to the patient and they have in in hand. Up to Date seems to recommend erythromycin as an option so it likely is not that bad and given the lack of evidence for antibiotics in the first place there can't be any studies against its use..
Thanks. Good session. Would like some evidence around cycloplegics for pain control.

What about the Burr device? I have used it for 30 years. It is much less traumatic than the 20th Century needle approach.
