One danger I have experienced is the mixed Asthma-COPD where a 54 year old female came in with severe wheeze into a General Practice Clinic . We have nebulisation of salbutamol (albeterol ) through oxygen at 6-8 L /min. By the third nebulisation after initial improvement she started “crashing “ getting sleepy but luckily an Mobile Intensive Unit Ambulance arrived and she needed intubation fortunately she survived . Another practitioner told me she had seen this at it was due to Oxygen depressing the Hypoxic Drive . So in 40 years old plus long life smokers with asthma this mix COPD -Asthma and Hypoxic Drive needs stringent evaluation .
