Dystonic Reaction of the Jaw

This patient is suffering from an acute dystonic reaction. Many types of medications can cause this, including antipsychotics, antiemetics, anticonvulsants, and others. Jaw dislocation can occur due to the dystonia. The treatment is 1-2 mg of IV benztropine or 25-50 mg of IV/IM diphenhydramine if benztropine is not available.
