To control the blood flow through the centrifugal ECMO pump, the speed (revolutions per minute) can be increased or decreased. As the speed is increased, a pressure differential is generated across the pump head and blood moves through the circuit.  As the speed is increased, access pressures will become more negative and return pressures will become higher.
