It was distressing to hear this tape that suicide screening tools have not been shown to work :Rely on clinical judgements. Does clinical judgement work? Better to hear striving for more saves of people's lives and discussions of how we can better prevent these very sad and painful deaths .
My biggest rant would be despite any evidence regarding the benefit or lack there of for medical screening tests, is there an ED in the country that isn't being strong armed by mental health hospitals requiring these tests before they will "take" the patient in transfer. Maybe an idea for a future episode would be to get a knowledgeable ED physician and a knowledgeable psychiatrist to discuss why the practice of what we do NOT mirror what the evidence says. J.
