For the hair apposition technique, what is your advice for patients in regards to showering?
Hi Steve, thanks for the excellent question. Much like any wound closed with tissue adhesive glue, my advice to patients is to keep the area dry, minimize exposure to water, shampoo, and ointments. While in truth most modern tissue adhesive glue formulations are pretty durable, and probably would withstand a single shower, better not to push your luck for fear of wound dehiscence, so I usually tell patients to keep it dry for about 5 to 7 days. With that said, when it’s time for the “sutures “ to come out, at that time I will usually encourage showering to help ease the process of glue removal.
What you do matters.
