Re the pt who does not need admission but has osteo- why d/c on antibiotics? Why not wait for a bone biopsy and isolate the bug? Then give bug appropriate abx. Abx before bx may condemn the pt to broad spectrum abx for an extended period
That's a good point. I think it would be totally reasonable to wait for a bone biopsy before starting abx. For me if I probe to bone or have a high clinical suspicion of osteo, starting the patient on some type of abx makes me feel like I'm doing something while waiting for the next steps in the workup.
