extraordinary pod.
extremely concerning.. I started ER in '86, NYC... so I viscerally remember everything that Mel describes here..
the stigma and resistances still remain , I am quite sure, in many cases , in many patient encounters.

this segment on newer advances, stem cell, transfusions, stroke risk screening, is terribly exciting. such an awful disease.

thank you all.
tom

am getting Juli's book now.

The cleveland clinic announced on May 28th 2021 that they are doing a small clinical trial with 40 sickle cell patients. It's a multi center study assessing the effectiveness of a single dose of EDIT-301. It's a one time gene editing cell therapy. the patient's stem cells are collected, they receive chemotherapy to destroy the remaining bone marrow to make room for the repaired cells which are infused back into the patient. they are taking ages 18-50 in this study.
