Hemostatic Pressure Dressing

A topical hemostatic agent can be applied for areas with persistent venous oozing. You can form a pyramid pressure dressing by stacking larger and larger pieces of gauze over the site of the bleed, with a tight dressing on top. This focuses the pressure onto a smller surface area. Took care of a guy that had a varicose vein bleed and he only had electrical tape around and applied it to the bleeding spot. Worked great. Doesn't stick well to wet surface but it does to itself. So, as he wrapped the tape around his leg multiple times, the tape would stick to itself where there was dry tape and applied direct pressure to the bleeding vein, right at the bleeding site. When I went to examine the bleeding and took off the tape, because it didn't stick well to the bloody skin, the tape came off and the bleeding had stopped and the tape didn't tear away the newly formed platelet plug at the bleeding site.
