The rationale for Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) is to designate certain hospitals to better be equipped to care for pediatric emergency patients. This model may need to be revised.

Hey Al- I'm curious if the mandate for every ED to meet EDAP criteria in New Jersey resulted in fewer pediatric EDs being built. Any idea if that happened ? I share your sentiments about pediatric EDs causing regular ED physicians (in standard departments) to grow less comfortable with pediatrics . But I'm not clear how to help stem the tide of pediatric EDs in my own state. Feels rather hopeless as I hear "it is a fellowship approved by your own board, so why are you against staffing a peds ED with all peds EM physicians? It would not have been approved if it wasn't better than no fellowship at all, right?"
