Reduction of a Lateral Patellar Dislocation

To reduce a lateral patellar dislocation first provide the patient with some analgesia. With the hip slightly flexed, slowly extend the knee while you push the patella medially and anteriorly until it reduces. Check a repeat knee exam to make sure the extensor tendons are intact.

Agree. I've had 100% reduction success with simple knee extension alone. But now that I've jinx it, may have to add patellar manipulation. Ha.
