ROP Breaking News: Goals of Care During COVID-19

- Discuss goals of care now while patients are still well
- Patients who require mechanical ventilation have extremely poor prognosis
- Explain different challenges based on your local resources (staffing, PPE, equipment)
- Ensure that patients understand that if they are hospitalized with COVID they will be kept in isolation
- Advise patients homecare will also become increasingly challenging once community spread is established (need for PPE, staffing issues, etc.)
- Practice these conversations ahead of time and be sure to explain the extraordinary circumstances at play in the world today
