To prepare a “Dirty Epi” drip you need 1 mg of epinephrine and 1 liter of normal saline. Using the filter needle, draw up 1 mg of epinephrine. Next, exchange the filter needle, and inject 1 mg of epinephrine into 1 liter of normal saline. Mix the solution, and make sure you’ve labeled the bag appropriately. Your 1 liter of normal saline now contains epinephrine at 1 mcg/ml. Start the drip at 1-2 drops per second, which delivers 3-6 mcg per minute.
